Dec 12,  · Posada was studied by key figures of Mexican muralism. Mural artists inspired by Posada, such as Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco catered to a Mexican elite that rejected foreign styles as part of their new-found bourgeois taste. In addition to its extensive photographic holdings, the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections also holds the Sam L. Slick Collection of Latin American & Iberian Posters (10, items), an archive of prints and broadsides by the Mexican popular graphic artist José Guadalupe Posada, eleven portfolios of lithographs by Guatemalan.

Posada Beyond La Catrina A century since his death, José Guadalupe Posada left a wide heritage, not only engravings and skull, but he was a pioneer of editorial and graphic design in México. José Guadalupe Posada (February 2, – January 20, [1]) was a Mexican political printmaker and engraver whose work has influenced many Latin American artists and cartoonists because of its satirical acuteness and social engagement.. Posada was born in Aguascalientes on February 2, His education in his early years was drawn from his older brother Cirilo, a country school.

José Guadalupe Posada (–) and Calaveras. He is the author of several studies of the work of Jose Guadalupe Posada, and coauthor of a volume on bookplates designed by Mexican artists. His book dealing with the typically Mexican genre of Calaveras, or skeleton caricatures, is also forthcoming from Editorial RM. Lopez Casillas lives in Mexico City.
